The New Wellness

Ergonomics is the science of designing the job, equipment, and workplace to fit the worker. Proper ergonomic design is necessary to prevent repetitive strain injuries, which can develop over time and can lead to long-term disability.

Acute low back pain

Acute low back pain is in the top five of most common reasons to visit a physician.

Population studies show that back pain affects most adults, sooner or later. Approximately 90% of all adults experience back pain at some point in their lives, and 50% of the working adults experience back pain at least once a year. Back pain could be a sign of a serious medical problem, but more often it is a simply a result of bad posture.

In general back pain does not usually require immediate medical intervention. The vast majority of episodes of back pain are self-limiting and non-progressive. Most back pain syndromes are due to inflammation, especially in the acute phase, which typically lasts for two weeks to three months.

Low back pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder which affects the lumbar segment of the spine. It can be either acute, sub-acute, or chronic in its clinical presentation. Typically, the symptoms of low back pain do show significant improvement within two to three months from its onset. In a significant number of individuals, low back pain tends to be recurrent in nature with a waxing and waning quality to it. In a small proportion of sufferers this condition can become chronic.

Low back pain is the cause for more sick leave and disability than any other single medical condition. One of the most underestimated factors of people working in a sitting or partially sitting position is the use of proper working stools and chairs.

Common complaints

Do you recognize any or all of the following symptoms?

  • back pain
  • shoulder pain
  • neck pain
  • RSI (repetitive stress) pain

A possible solution could be found in your posture:

  • What chair do you use?
  • Does your backrest provide sufficient support?
  • Can you adjust the tilt (angulation) of your seat?
  • Is your chair set at the right height?
  • Is the angulation between your legs and the seat not too tight?
  • Can you adjust the height of your work surface?

The right chair for you

Good posture is determined by choosing the right chair. Ask yourself: are your job activities static or dynamic? What is the height of your desk or work surface? What is your personal preference or perhaps physical limitation? How many people will be using your chair, or will it be your personal chair only? How many hours a day will you sit on it? How many years do you still plan to be working this job, and what investment is it worth to secure your future health and job?

For every profession we provide a custom seating solution. We offer a variety of office chairs for desk workers, and a series of different stools for medical practitioners, dentists, beauticians, laboratory workers, just to name a few.

Testimonials

“Over the past several months I have become familiar with the products and services of Back Quality Ergonomics.  I also purchased one of their stools for use in a clinical setting.  What caught my attention initially was the quality craftsmanship.  In conversations with the principals in the company and the sales team I was delighted by their ability to succinctly describe the ergonomic benefits of their products and the many features that fit multiple positions and body heights.”
